Last minute changes!

On Wednesday afternoon VSO suddenly said they had a problem with our arrival date. They wanted us (the two other volunteers and me) to arrive on the 19th January instead! Not the best timing, considering I was up to my eyes in the end of term Christmas madness at school.

After many frantic phone calls and emails we have now organised to fly out on the 10th January anyway and spend some time in Accra, the capital city, and the surrounding areas. VSO Ghana were a little concerned about us coming out without support so we have planned the week carefully. We intend to make a visit to some schools, and Dr Michael Bonsi (the Ghanaian teacher from our local secondary school) has organised for us to visit the Cocoa Research Institute. I have no idea what this is really, but Dr Bonsi's very good friend runs it and is keen to show us around.

We also intend to visit the Kakum National Park, Lake Volta, Cape Coast University and the Obuasi gold mine. I must confess we have booked a 'luxury villa' for this with a car and driver - nothing like starting the trip in style before moving north to rough it!

All this before our 'in country training' starts in Accra on the 20th January. I will certainly have plenty to write in my diary!

I have set up a separate blog for the children (the questions they ask make me smile!) and I may well copy some of what I put on there for this blog, so apologies if I come out with any 'teacher-speak'!
